Synopsis: This Is It, features Michael Jackson in his final days rehearsing for a series of comeback concerts in London, shortly before his untimely death. The movie will be drawn from hundreds of hours of rehearsal and behind-the-scenes footage. Jackson was staging his rehearsals at Staples Center and The Forum. The film will also offer select sequences in 3D and will also have a career retrospective and interviews with some of Jackson’s closest friends and collaborators. The footage was captured from the early stages of the production to technical rehearsals at the Staples Center in L.A. showing Michael Jackson as he truly was, creatively involved with every aspect of the production, from the staging and choreography, to the music, lighting, production design and conception of the original short films and video backdrops.

Michael Jackson: This Is It is a 2009 film showing Michael Jackson’s rehearsals for a concert series of the same name. The footage was filmed at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It is set for worldwide theatrical release on October 28, 2009 with a limited two-week run. Tickets go on sale a month early, on September 27, 2009 to satisfy a high anticipated demand. On August 10, 2009, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved a deal between Michael Jackson’s estate, concert promoter AEG Live and Sony Pictures. This allows Sony Pictures to edit hundreds of hours of rehearsal footage, mostly shot at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Sony paid $60 million for the film rights. The film will feature a retrospective of Jackson’s career, behind-the-scenes segments, and interviews with the popstar’s friends. The film project is underway with the full support of The Estate of Michael Jackson and its executors. A live album will accompany the film, and will feature at least one new song.
